چکیده

Approximately 50% of total harvested cereal grains are lost during the post-harvest handling and storage, insects main cause for both quantity (reductions in weight) quality. In present study effect microwave radiation was studied on one stored product pest, flour beetle Tribolium castaneum (Hersbt). Adult were obtained from infested products at stores specialized selling Sakaka. Insects with its food media inside sac exposed to 15, 30, 45 60 sec each power. beetles 30 sec. This result revealed that mortality immature adults reached 100% 15 sec, respectively.

Effects of gamma radiation on the reproductive organs in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum (Herbst)

Gamma radiation effects on the gonads of Tribolium castaneum were assessed by cytological techniques. Pupal treatments of 15 Gy resulted in the significant reduction of testes and ovaries leading to sterility in males and infecundity in females, respectively. The present findings thus provide an important information for designing a sterile male technique for this storage pest species.

Hermetic storage of wheat and maize flour protects against red flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum Herbst)

Hermetic storage is used to protect grain against insect pests, but its utility is not limited to whole grains. We evaluated hermetically-sealed, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles for preserving wheat and maize flour against red flour beetle (RFB, Tribolium castaneum, Herbst) population growth. Flours infested with RFB and kept in sealed PET bottles experienced much less weight loss over...

Laboratory evaluation of some indigenous plant extracts as toxicants against red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum Herbst

Experiments were carried out to evaluate the toxicity of six botanicals, Bazna (Zanthoxylum rhetsa), Ghora-neem (Melia sempervirens), Hijal (Barringtonia acutangula), Karanja (Pongamia pinnata), Mahogoni (Swietenia mahagoni) and Neem (Azadirachta indica) against red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum Herbst. Leaf and seed extracts were prepared by using acetone, methanol and water as solvents. T...

Ovicidal Activity of Essential Oils against Red Flour Beetle, Tribolium Castaneum (herbst) (coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

Context: The essential oils are being tried as potential candidates for pest and disease management. Several essential oils of botanical origin have been reported for their repellant, toxic and developmental inhibitory activities. The ovicidal effect of essential oil is probably the major factor in the suppression of the development of adults from treated eggs. Objectives: To investigate the ov...

Effects of proteinase inhibitors on digestive proteinases and growth of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae).

The physiology of the gut lumen of the red flour beetle, T. castaneum, was studied to determine the conditions for optimal protein hydrolysis. Although the pH of gut lumen extracts from T. castaneum was 6.5, maximum hydrolysis of casein by gut proteinases occurred at pH 4.2. The synthetic substrate N-alpha-benzoyl-DL-arginine-rho-nitroanilide was hydrolyzed by T. castaneum gut proteinases in bo...
